About the Department
- B.Com (UG Programme name ) was started in the year 1982
- B.Com (CA) (UG Programme name ) was started in the year 2010
- M.Com (PG Programme name) was started in the year 2000
- M.Phil - Commerce (M.Phil. Programme name) was started in the year 2009
- Ph.D - Commerce (Ph.D. Programme name) was started in the year 2009
1. The department has adequate well qualified, competent faculty who are dedicated to the academic and overall development of the student community.
2. Social outreach and public interaction Program is an integral part of the departmental activities. The department has proved its excellence with a committed staff and enthusiastic students with consistency bring Kudos to the department in the field of academic and extracurricular activities.
3. The teaching highlights of the faculty of our department are Learner- centric, ICT enabled, Project based, continuous assessment and comprehensive & realistic evaluation.
4. The Department offers specialisation in the area of Accounting and Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) with an aim to develop the requisite knowledge, skills and attributes in students to meet the challenging needs of the world of work. The curriculum also includes summer internship and project work.

Facilities
Library: The commerce department is having a separate department library with 2364 books in addition to the general library of the college. The books are regularly issued to the students of B.Com, B.Com (CA), M.Com, M.Phil and Ph.D students. Dr. R.Kannan, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce is given full incharge to look after the issue of books.
Instruments: The department is having five computer systems with printers and also with broad band internet facilities. The students can any time assess the internet even during the period of power cut as the department is electrified with inverters. With the help of Xerox machine owned by the department of commerce, the students can at any time get copies of any materials with reference to the subjects and as well as documents at free of cost.
A separate class room is allotted to equip LCD projector with computer system and screen with broad band facilities. Seminars, group discussions etc. are regularly undertaken to familiarise and simplify the subjects to various classes of students. The LCD projector is also regularly used by the department staff members as a teaching aid.
Journals: The department library is also subscribing 14 magazines, journals and international journals related to subject like Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management, business management, accounting standards, RBI bulletin etc. Some books containing research papers published by various publishers have also been subscribed to abreast the day to day affair of research activities by the students as well as the staff members.
